Birds in the Garden

In the last few days just after Easter, I had the pleasure of capturing some incredible photos of birds visiting my backyard birdbath in Mallacoota. It was fascinating to watch each bird come to the bath for a splash and a drink, and I was lucky enough to capture some of these moments on camera.

First up was the Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans), a striking bird with bright red plumage and blue cheeks. It was lovely to see this bird come to the birdbath and take a dip. I managed to capture a beautiful photo of it with water droplets glistening on its feathers.

Next was the Grey Fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa), a tiny bird with a long, fanned tail. This little bird was flitting around the birdbath, splashing water everywhere and enjoying its bath time. I was impressed by its agility and speed as it darted around the birdbath.

Then came the Red-browed Finch (Neochmia temporalis), a small bird with a bright red face and a brown back. I was amazed to see so many of them come to the birdbath at the same time. In one photo, I counted thirteen finches in the bath at the same time! It was a delightful sight to see them all together, splashing and having fun.

Finally, there was the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus), a large and impressive bird with striking black feathers and a yellow tail. This bird didn't visit the birdbath for a bath, but instead perched on a tree nearby, eating tree nuts. It was a challenge to spot this bird, as it was almost hidden among the leaves, but I managed to capture a photo of it enjoying its meal.

Overall, it was an incredible experience to see all these birds up close and personal, and I feel grateful to have been able to capture some beautiful moments on camera. Birdwatching in Mallacoota is always an adventure, and I can't wait to see what other fascinating species I'll encounter next.
