The local guide
A beach for every mood.
Get to know Bastion Point, Betka and the quieter stretches of the Mallacoota coast.
Start at Bastion Point
Watch the light move across the entrance and the waves roll towards the point. The inlet mouth changes with sand, weather and tides, so yesterday’s view can be quite different from today’s.
Make time for Betka
At Betka, river water meets the ocean beside a broad sweep of sand. It’s a lovely spot for a picnic or a shoreline wander. Water depth, currents and the state of the river entrance can change quickly.
A little further along
Look towards Quarry Beach and Secret Beach when you feel like exploring. Access can involve uneven ground and steps. Check Parks Victoria’s current advice before setting out, particularly after storms or fire.
These are open coastal waters. Check signs and conditions, keep away from unstable edges and choose a safe place for your abilities. A quiet-looking inlet entrance can still have strong currents.
