On the wild, southern edge of Australia, winter evenings can be quiet… but they can also be magical.

On the night of 9 August 2025, Mallacoota offered one of those rare, golden moments — a full moon rising over the inlet as the last blush of sunset lingered in the west. From Gabo Island’s distant lighthouse flash to the calm, mirror-like water, the whole scene felt like a song waiting to happen.

So I wrote one.

🎵 The Song – “Gold on the Water”
Inspired by that night’s stillness, Gold on the Water is an original indie folk track, blending warm acoustic guitar, gentle harmonies, and poetic imagery of the inlet, sandspit, and lighthouse. It’s recorded in a live-feel style — you can almost hear the salt air between the lines.

📸 The Photos
From the panorama of Mallacoota Inlet bathed in moonlight, to the close-up detail of the full moon itself, these images tell the visual story behind the song. The moon’s reflection stretched like molten gold across the water, while soft pink clouds drifted eastward.

🌏 The 360° Experience
Step right into the scene with this immersive 360° view — look west to see the glowing sunset over the forest, then swing east to find the golden moon lifting above the inlet.

🎥 The Video
A 2:20 4K clip captures the moonrise looking out to sea, with the faint flash of Gabo Island lighthouse just visible. The zoom shifts from a wide view to an intimate close-up, mirroring the way the night draws you in.

Why This Matters

Mallacoota’s beauty isn’t just in its landscapes — it’s in the way the light, tide, and air combine to create fleeting moments of connection. Gold on the Water is my way of keeping that moment alive, in sound and image, so you can experience it anywhere in the world.

Whether you listen to the song, watch the video, explore the 360°, or simply pause on a photo, I hope you find a little of the magic we felt that night.
