Why I Switched to Starlink

After using NBN in Mallacoota for several years, I’ve recently made the switch to Starlink V3, and it’s been a serious upgrade — both in performance and value.

My NBN Experience

To be fair, my experience with the NBN has been mostly OK. It’s gone down a few times, and peak holiday periods (like over Easter and the April school holidays) saw noticeable slowdowns. I was on a $95/month plan, getting around 67 Mbps download and 12 Mbps upload — enough to get by, but far from ideal.

Why I Switched

I recently installed Starlink V3 at home. Setup was dead simple: mounted it on the verandah with a clear view of the sky, ran a cable to the office, and I was up and running within an hour. The system uses WiFi 6, and the speed difference was immediate:

  • Download: jumped to over 320 Mbps
  • Upload: steady at around 16 Mbps
  • Streaming, video calls, uploads — all rock-solid.

Even uploading a 4K video to YouTube now takes just 10 minutes — something the NBN couldn’t manage reliably.

The Cost

  • Plan: $99/month
  • Hardware Kit: under $400 (including mount + freight)
  • Delivery: arrived in 7 days
  • Installation: straightforward DIY

There’s also a special offer running now:

💥 $0 hardware kit (normally $549) when you sign up for a 12-month residential plan in select areas.
📡 High-speed internet — at home or on the go

If you live regionally or have struggled with slow or unstable connections, this is absolutely worth considering.

My Mobile Setup – Aldi Mobile

For phone service, I use Aldi Mobile. Their $19/month plan gives me:

  • Unlimited calls and texts
  • 10 GB of data
  • Reliable Telstra network coverage

Between Starlink at home and Aldi Mobile on the go, my digital life is sorted — fast, stable, and affordable.
